Making first milestone of the Akura scholarship program within 6 months

Akura commenced its scholarship program in early February 2016 with the target of offering 8 scholarships for school students and 2 for university students.

During the past 6 months, we were looking for suitable students to offer scholarships. We found and helped 9 school students from different areas of the country. Few weeks ago we found two talented university students from University of Moratuwa and University of Ruhuna who are in need of financial support in addition to the government bursary. We will be providing each of them 5000LKR every month from 1st of August 2016 to help with their studies.

We are happy to announce that we reached our first milestone after 6 months by supporting needy 9 school students and 2 university students. We will extend this scholarship program for another group of student in near future.

Moreover, we have started another pilot project of lending educational support materials by providing a laptop to one of the university students who was eligible for the Akura scholarship. Our plan is to pass his laptop to another needy student after his first degree.

We highly hope that, all of these scholars will be joining with our community, and contribute back to the community, to empower our next generation although we never force them to join Akura organization.

Last but not least, as of now we have provided total of 225,000.00LKR as monthly scholarship for those 11 students (both school and university students) and four of them from families of single mothers. We highly respect their privacy and we manage to raise funds without disclosing their personal information to public.
